When is this worth it for a crew?

Five occasions:

• Start stress. We can’t get our horsepower onto the start line.
• The mistake that tips the race. One fumble costs us not a boat length but the whole race.
• The newly assembled crew. We are strong individually but not yet a team.
• Conflict on board. It isn’t the wind slowing us down, it’s the mood below deck.
• The big goal on the horizon. We want our heads as well prepared on the big day as the boat.
